Abstract

This article explores the current state of the cross-disciplinary development between the fields of origami structures and civil engineering structures. The origami structure has an impact on the three functional categories of civil engineering structures. These three parts and their corresponding current development status are: Due to the expandability of origami structures, an expandable structure has been developed; By leveraging the high rigidity and lightweight characteristics of the origami structure, a load-bearing structure has been developed; Develop energy-absorbing structures based on the performance characteristics of origami structures. This article comprehensively describes the unique properties of origami structures and applies these properties to the current development status of civil structures.
